Mobile Users Spending 117% More Time on Mobile in 2016
While often ignored, apps as a whole have shaped Smartphone hardware more than most people would give them credit for. Interestingly enough, according to a recent report by Flurry despite the prevalence of larger screens the only category to record a negative growth in app usage in the past year was mobile gaming. So with mobile games predicted to take over other forms of gaming by 2019, is a lower user session count something that game developers will have to keep in mind?
App Usage Soars Across Personalization Media & Productivity Categories
News and Magazines:
As time spent on smartphones peaked, people found themselves consuming all sorts of information from their apps and neglecting other forms of media. A whopping growth of 135% in 2015 signals a change in the medium people use to consume infotainment.
In comparison, in 2014, only 20% of the 76% growth came from new users and numbers were, even more, dismal in 2013, where old users contributed only 10% to the 104% growth. Let us now shift our focus to the top categories individually.
Productivity Apps:
As the mobile operating systems have matured they have become increasingly capable of handling complex business and productivity-oriented tasks. Spurred on by a growth rate of 125%, these apps have ostensibly given tablets a new life by marketing them as productivity oriented devices.
Lifestyle and Shopping
Shoppers have been moving away from traditional outlets to app-based shopping for a while now. Following up the massive 174% growth of 2014, e-commerce does excellently this year as well with 81% growth. Shopping apps have accounted for nearly 33% of all US online commerce and nearly 40% on a global basis.
Personalization Apps
Apps that provide various levels of personalization have skyrocketed in popularity gaining as much as 332% in 2015. The major gainers in this category were keyboards especially those with an abundance of emojis as people found a new fun way to communicate with friends and family via these little images.
How big a role has the hardware of the Smartphone played in all of these? While we did go into a very in-depth analysis of that very question before, it was focused specifically on the shopping and e-commerce sector.

Mobile apps Vs Mobile Website: Which One is the Best Option for Startups
The buzz around mobile apps is getting louder day by day as
more and more people are using smart phones. So, every business should rush
towards developing mobile app for your business whether it’s small or large
one.

Startups
Mobile app for startups is a better choice. Apple and Google
android app store are providing much easy access to download an app. Just you
need to develop an app that work upon different versions and operating systems.
On the other hand, mobile apps are designed in a different
manner than of a mobile web. You can do a lot more things with a mobile app
that are not easily accessible through a mobile website. Mobile apps have a smart catch over your mobile stuff like camera, GPS
module, address book and many more.
The best option depends on your business requirement. Always
consider the following points before making a decision:
Need
Think about what you want to achieve and what you want your product to do.
Do you want to generate new revenue stream?
Think about what you want to achieve and what you want your product to do.
Do you want to generate new revenue stream?
What is your targeted
audience whether its businesses or consumers?
How your customers
would get access to your products and services?
If your product is
highly interactive or revenue generator then you must go for a mobile app.
Budget
Budget is also one of
the important factor in making the decision for mobile app or mobile web. If
your website is designed and developed in wordPress or some similar CMS, then it’s
better to go for mobile website as it will costs you low expense to optimized it
to mobile screen. But if you have built your website using latest technologies
like xhtml or CSS then mobile app will not be much costly for you.
Audience
Make a complete analysis about the targeted audience and the overall set of people that can actually make access of the mobile app or mobile optimized website. With Mobile website you can reach a set of large audience as it is properly optimized according to mobile display. On the other hand mobile apps are confined to smart phones; your targeted audience will be narrowed to the phones or platforms your app is designed to run. And if your users are mainly Smartphone users then you can go for mobile apps for a better reach to your goal.
